Over the past 18 years Taconic Opera has assembled a group of resident core performers that perform in the majority of productions. As a result, auditions are generally specific to particular operas that are approaching.

Taconic Opera does not accept unsolicited audition materials. Auditions for specific roles and operas, will be announced here on the website or in the Classical Singer Magazine and their website.

In line with the company's philosophy, all singers must be local. By local, we mean that you can go to your home after each rehearsal without difficulty. This usually means that you must live in the New York Metro area. We do not provide housing for singers and do not import them from outside our area.

Agents are not required, but most singers who audition for Taconic Opera have at least 15 professional leading roles on their resumes. If you do not, you may want to begin by singing with our chorus. Comprimario roles are generally taken from our chorus members. Some of our lead singers sing at the MET and other large houses and are trying out their roles here first. If you are right out of college, you probably won't be hired for a principle role. We also hire singers who are equally proficient actors. Tenors have legitimate high "C"s--no falsetto mixes. Other singers auditioning for bel-canto roles need to be trained in true clean coloratura technique. And yes, we prefer that you look like the role for which you are auditioning.
